Muhammad Umar Memon is the Editor of The Annual of Urdu Studies and Professor Emeritus of Urdu Literature and Islamic Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is the interantionally-acclaimed translator of contemporary Urdu master short story writer, Naiyer Masud, and has also translated a number of contemporary Urdu fiction writers. His most recent work, an anthology of contemporary short Urdu fiction from Pakistan titled Do You Suppose It’s the East Wind? Stories from Pakistan, will be published by Penguin India in June 2009.
